A Community Project in the Garden
Over the past two weeks, something exciting has been happening in our garden here at Footprints. With the help of many eager hands—both boys and girls—we built a brand-new compost system. Today, we are happy to share that it’s finally finished!
A Hands-On Project for Everyone
The idea began when we started cleaning up the garden. To get our six greenhouses and the surrounding area ready for planting again, we first had to remove a lot of weeds and old plant material. Very quickly, we realized just how much green waste we were collecting. A compost was not just a good idea—it was urgently needed.
So we turned it into a team project. After school and even on Sundays, the children came out to help. They measured, sawed, hammered, and carried with so much energy and excitement. Together, we collected the bamboo poles from the bush right next to our land and used them to build the entire structure. The compost ended up being quite large—but with the size of our garden, it will definitely be put to good use!
Why This Compost Matters
Now that we have a proper place for all our green waste, the whole compound already looks more organized. Over the next few months, everything inside the compost will slowly turn into rich, healthy soil. Once ready, we’ll use this humus to improve our garden beds and help our fruits and vegetables grow even better.
The children are especially proud. They know that in just a few months, they’ll see the results of the work they put in today. And even now, having a clean and dedicated space for our garden waste feels like a big win.
What’s Next?
Before we start planting again, our next project will be repairing the bamboo fence around the garden. We want to make sure the goats from outside can’t sneak in and snack on our new crops!
But for now, we’re celebrating this meaningful step forward. Our compost is ready, our garden is getting cleaner, and our community is working together with joy and purpose.
