United in Christ: Love That Crossed the Ocean

In mid to late January 2026, we were blessed with a very special visit here at Footprints in Sierra Leone. Our friends — truly our brothers and sisters in Christ — traveled a very long way from Michigan, USA, all the way to Sierra Leone. They came to see their children, to spend precious time with them, to share joy, love, and encouragement — and also to serve with open hearts and willing hands.

From the very beginning, this time reminded us of a beautiful truth from the Bible:

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”

Coming as Family, Serving With Love

Their visit was not just a visit — it felt like family coming home. The children could feel it immediately: they were seen, valued, and deeply loved. There was playing and laughter, meaningful conversations, shared meals, and prayers together every evening. Some mornings, our guests even walked the children to school, starting the day side by side.

But their love was also shown in action.

Transforming Rooms Into Homes

During their stay, the teams worked tirelessly to improve the children’s living spaces. All the children’s bedrooms were freshly painted in beautiful, warm colors. The rooms were transformed and now feel brighter, more welcoming, and much more like home.

Many new bunk beds were built as well, creating more space and comfort in the rooms. The children absolutely love them!
On top of that, the rooms were lovingly decorated with new pinboards for photos, fairy lights, curtains, coat hooks, and even glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceilings. Every detail reflected care, creativity, and genuine love.

Two Teams, One Shared Heart

Two teams, each with around ten people, visited us during these weeks. The first team stayed for one week, and just as they left, the second team arrived for another week. Over these two weeks, we experienced an overwhelming amount of love, joy, and encouragement.

Three times a week, the teams led Vacation Bible Lessons (VBL). The children heard Bible stories in a lively and engaging way — through singing, crafting, storytelling, and learning together. These moments were filled with joy and faith and left lasting impressions on young hearts.

Faith That Connects Across Continents

At first, the heat of Sierra Leone was a real challenge for our friends — especially coming from Michigan, where winter was in full force with cold temperatures and heavy snow. But after a few days (and thankfully with the help of fans 😊), they slowly adjusted to the climate.

What truly carried this time, however, was our shared faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. It connected us beyond distance, culture, and language. The sponsors are extraordinarily kind and warm-hearted people, and this shared season will remain unforgettable for all of us.

Until We Meet Again

As is often the case, when something is truly beautiful and filled with joy, time seems to pass far too quickly. We miss our friends and family from the United States deeply and already look forward to their next visit.

Until then, we send our love, our gratitude, and God’s richest blessings.
May He watch over you until we meet again.
